EDUC 6990: Exploring Roles in the ECE Community: Local and State Levels

My organizations Kent State University, Akron Summit Community Action, Inc and Community Action Wayne/Medina County. All three organizations mission include positive social change through education. My passions include ending the war on poverty. More children than ever are living in poverty. Poverty-stricken youth show higher rates of academic failure and an increased probability of grade retention. The inequality is startling, and this early disadvantage is only compounded by these children’s lack of access to quality preschool education. How early childhood education can help? High-quality preschool programs are proven to raise academic performance and give children the skills and tools to be successful and contribute to society. Additionally, learning how to peacefully handle conflict. Teachers are the most important factor in determining the quality of learning. They also impart values, model behavior and play an important role in socialization. Teacher recruitment and training need to include conflict-sensitivity.
